The Civil Society Urban Development Programme (CSUDP) is a programme that has been designed and anchored on the current Embassy of Sweden (EoS) strategy for cooperation with Kenya that runs between 2009 and 2013.
With the inherent strengths that Maji na Ufanisi (MnU) has in the urban sector, the EoS entered into an agreement with MnU in support of the implementation of the CSUDP. The CSUDP’s mission is ‘to facilitate equitable and sustainable urban development through improved management; access to basic services; governance; and coordination, particularly for the urban poor’.
The Civil Society Urban Development Programme (CSUDP) enlisted its participation in the Sixth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF VI) under the auspices of the Civil Society Urban Forum (CSUF), a multi-stakeholder dialogue platform established and supported by the CSUDP.
In the WUF VI the CSUF showcased institutionalization, nationalization and rededication of Local Urban Forums (LUFs) towards better and smarter urban Kenya.
As a run up to the WUF VI, CSUDP organized the urban torch campaign (through the LUFs), which was a public awareness run of activities that took place between July and August 2012 in 14 towns namely: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Naivasha, Thika, Nyeri, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Garissa, Mombasa and Malindi with the national event taking place in Kakamega on August 10 2012.
